Sen. Tonya Anderson and Rep. Houston Gaines Announce Final Passage of Criminal Justice Reform Legislation

ATLANTA – State Senator Tonya Anderson (D-Lithonia) and State Representative Houston Gaines (R-Athens) carried and unanimously passed Senate Bill 288 in both chambers on Wednesday, June 24, 2020. SB 288 will now head to Governor Brian Kemp for consideration. This legislation would allow for individuals to have certain misdemeanors restricted and sealed from their public criminal records after not reoffending for four years. Continue reading “Sen. Georgia Legislators Attend National Black Caucus of State Legislators’ Annual Conference

ATLANTA – Georgia state legislators recently attended the National Black Caucus of State Legislator’s (NBCSL) 43rd Annual Legislative Conference (ALC) in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. The ALC invited African American legislators, along with advocates, policy experts, corporate executives and community leaders, to discuss pressing issues affecting African Americans and other marginalized communities. Georgia Legislators Attend National Foundation of Women Legislators’ Evolution of Marijuana Policy Summit

ATLANTA – State Representatives Dar’shun Kendrick (D-Lithonia), Karen Bennett (D-Stone Mountain), Sandra Scott (D-Rex) and State Senator Tonya Anderson (D-Lithonia) recently attended the Evolution of Marijuana Policy Summit hosted by the National Foundation of Women Legislators (NFWL) in Denver, Colorado. The NWFL hosted a group of 30 elected women who are considering marijuana-related legalization in their state or municipality or in states where legalization has already been established. Georgia Legislators Attend Public Leadership Institute’s National Conference

ATLANTA – State Representatives Debra Bazemore (D-Riverdale), Dar’shun Kendrick (D-Lithonia), Billy Mitchell (D-Stone Mountain) and Sam Park (D-Lawrenceville), along with Senators Tonya Anderson (D-Lithonia) and Nan Orrock (D-Atlanta) recently attended the 2019 Public Leadership Institute’s (PLI) State Strategy Forum National Conference. This conference invites about 120 state legislators from over 40 different states to participate in policy and leadership sessions, which are designed as practical and real-world as possible.
