Rep. Belton Supports Governor’s Actions to Close BD Bard Plant in Covington

ATLANTA – State Representative Dave Belton (R-Buckhead) today announced his support of the recent actions taken by Governor Brian Kemp to close the BD Bard plant in Covington. After the BD Bard plant failed to voluntarily close its operations, Gov. Kemp and state officials filed a complaint to force the company to cease its operations until it can demonstrate to the state that it can be operated in a safe manner.

“I have been working with both the governor and the Covington mayor on this issue from the very beginning and believe they have both made prudent decisions,” said Rep. Belton. “My commitment to my constituents is to remain fully engaged to ensure the health and well-being of the citizens of Morgan and Newton counties.”

Gov. Kemp, Attorney General Chris Carr and the Georgia Environmental Protection Division (EPD) filed a complaint seeking the temporary closure of the BD Bard plant in Covington after reports of elevated levels of ethylene oxide emissions from the plant. The complaint was filed by on Monday, October 21, 2019 by Attorney General Carr in Newton County Superior Court on behalf of Gov. Kemp and the Environmental Protection Division of the Georgia Department of Natural Resources.

ATLANTA – The Georgia House of Representatives’ Committee on Assignments named State Representative Dave Belton (R-Buckhead) as the Chairman of the House Special Rules Committee and Secretary of the Interstate Cooperation Committee.  Rep. Belton will also serve as a member on the Appropriations Subcommittee on Public Safety and on the Economic Development & Tourism, Education, and Energy, Utilities & Telecommunications committees.
