Reps. Mandisha Thomas, William Boddie Introduce Legislation to Provide Fellowship Opportunities at State Agencies

ATLANTA – State Representatives Mandisha A. Thomas (D-South Fulton) and William Boddie (D-East Point) recently introduced House Bill 898, or the Georgia COVID-19 State Fellowship Act, which would create temporary employment opportunities at various state agencies. Through the Georgia COVID-19 State Fellowship Act, Reps. Thomas and Boddie seek to provide sufficient employment opportunities to experienced workers whose employment has been impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic, as well as enhance recruitment and training of qualified personnel at participating state agencies.

Georgia House Democratic Caucus Responds to Citizen’s Arrest Reform Legislation

ATLANTA – The Georgia House Democratic Caucus (GHDC), led by House Minority Leader James Beverly (D-Macon), today responded to Governor Brian Kemp’s bipartisan plan to address Georgia’s citizen’s arrest statute, which is an issue that Georgia House Democrats have worked to repeal before a video of Ahmaud Arbery’s death was released in 2020. The caucus is encouraged by the support of repealing and reforming the citizen’s arrest law since the release of this video, and the caucus believes the law is tied to slave-owning and emboldened three men to kill Mr. Arbery.

Georgia Democratic Legislators to Hold Press Conference Tomorrow to Demand for New Department of Labor Call Center

ATLANTA – Members of the Georgia House Democratic Caucus (GHDC) Subcommittee on COVID-19 are calling on the Georgia Department of Labor (GDOL) to establish a call center to improve communications regarding Unemployment Insurance (UI) requests. These state legislators will hold a virtual press conference to discuss their concerns TOMORROW, Friday, December 4, 2020, at 11:15 a.m. via Zoom.
