Rep. Alisha Thomas Morgan Joins Star-Studded Day of Events to Celebrate Dr. C. T. Vivian’s 85th Birthday

ATLANTA – Rep. Alisha Thomas Morgan (D-Austell) will be featured at The C. T. Vivian Leadership Institute’s 85th Birthday Celebration for Dr. C. T. Vivian this Friday, July 31st, 2009. Dr. Vivian, a renowned minister, author, educator, humanitarian and community activist, was a close friend and lieutenant of Reverend Martin Luther King, Jr. during the American Civil Rights Movement. Morgan is slated to headline two of the celebration’s main attractions, including a panel of intimate conversations with Dr. Vivian featuring some of the biggest names in the contemporary Civil Rights movement, and a memorable capstone evening dinner gala. IARC Study Shows Need for Tanning Bed Regulation

ATLANTA – Research published online today in the medical journal The Lancet Oncology moved tanning beds and other sources of ultraviolet radiation into the top cancer risk category, alongside arsenic and mustard gas. These findings show the pressing need to pass House Bill 853, introduced by state Representatives Karla Drenner (D-Avondale Estates). ATLANTA- Today House Transportation Chairman Jay Roberts (R-Ocilla) named Rep. Ed Rynders (R-Albany) Chairman of the House Transportation Subcommittee on Approval of the Director of Planning. This subcommittee will consider Governor Sonny Perdue’s recent appointment, Mr. Todd Long, for the position of Director of Planning at the Georgia Department of Transportation (GDOT) and make a recommendation to the full House Transportation Committee.

Rep. Allen Peake Elected House Republican Caucus Secretary/Treasurer

ATLANTA – The House Republican Caucus recently elected state Representative Allen Peake (R- Macon) as the new caucus secretary/treasurer. In his new position, Rep. Peake will be responsible for the financial management of the House Republican Caucus funds, for maintaining a record of all caucus meetings, advancing communication vehicles for the House Caucus, as well as providing input to the House leadership on policy initiatives.
