ATLANTA- The Cherokee County Legislative Delegation released the following statement after the passage of House Bill 908 this week, which will give more local control of billions in Quality Basic Education (QBE) grants and funding back to local school boards by giving them more control of their QBE funds:
“HB 908 offers additional flexibility for local school systems. It allows for more control of financial resources to achieve maximum efficiency. We believe giving local school boards the ability to deploy more dollars toward their greatest needs is the best option. In these difficult economic times flexibility is the key to maximizing the use of every educational dollar. Empowering those at the local level with the choice of how to spend education resources is our mission.”
House Bill 908 passed the House of Representatives 137-34 on Tuesday, February 9, 2010. The Cherokee County Legislative Delegation includes Representatives Charlice Byrd (R-Woodstock), Mark Hamilton (R-Cumming), Calvin Hill (R-Canton), and Sean Jerguson (R- Holly Springs) as well as Senate Majority Leader Chip Rogers (R-Woodstock) and Senator Jack Murphy (R-Cumming).
