ATLANTA – State Representative John Lunsford (R-McDonough) was recently awarded the Chris McGill Public Servant award by the Georgia Association of Solicitors-General (GASG). The award, named for a fallen Gwinnett County police officer, is given to members of the Georgia General Assembly who go above and beyond in their efforts to support legislation that assists Georgia’s public servants.
“Receiving the Chris McGill Public Servant award from the Georgia Association of Solicitors-General was an amazing honor,” said Rep. Lunsford. “I am incredibly happy to know that my efforts in the Georgia House of Representatives have made a noticeable difference for our public servants.”
Rep. Lunsford, who has decided not seek re-election to the House of Representatives for the 2011-2012 term, was presented the award by Solicitor-General Brian Fortner, GASG President, and Solicitor-General Charles Spahos, co-chair of the GASG Legislative Committee.
“Representative Lunsford has been a dependable advocate for the Georgia Association of Solicitors-General for years. He was a formidable member of the non-civil judiciary committee, and his common sense analysis of complex issues will be missed,” said Solicitor-General Spahos.
Surrounded by members of the Georgia State Patrol, Spahos went on to highlight Rep. Lunsford’ support of felony driving under the influence legislation in 2007 and driving with a suspended driver’s license legislation in 2009 as reasons for the recognition. Rep. Lunsford’s support of legislation related to the administration of pre-trial intervention programs in prosecutors’ offices was also noted as further proof of his dedicated support of Georgia public servants.

Representative John Lunsford represents the citizens of District 110, which includes portions of Butts, Henry, and Newton counties. He was elected into the House of Representatives in 2000, and currently serves as the Chairman of the Special Committee on Small Business Development and Job Creation. He also serves on the Appropriations, Health & Human Services, Judiciary Non-Civil, and Rules committees.
