Rep. Pruett Receives GGS Legislative Award

ATLANTA – State Representative Jimmy Pruett (R-Eastman) received the 2010 Legislative Award from the Georgia Gerontology Society (GGS) in recognition of his work to improve the quality of life for older adults, consistently supporting aging issues, and willingness to listen to the concerns of elderly Georgians.

“I was honored to receive the Legislative Award from the Georgia Gerontology Society,” said Rep. Pruett. “Georgia’s senior population is a vital part of our state.  Older adults take leadership roles in our communities, volunteer for charitable organizations, and help care for and educate the next generation.  I appreciate their selfless contributions.”

Rep. Pruett was nominated for the GGS Legislative Award by the Georgia Council on Aging, a GGS member organization.  The award was presented to Rep. Pruett at the 55th annual GGS state conference, which was held in conjunction with the National Association of States Units on Aging Home and Community Based Services.  This joint conference brought national attention to Georgia’s efforts to improve the lives of senior citizens.

The Georgia Gerontology Society, founded in 1955, is a membership organization of multi-disciplinary professionals with a common interest in the field of aging. The purpose of the society is to provide opportunities to interact with Georgia’s leaders in the field of aging by exchanging information and resources, to address the many challenges of a rapidly changing baby-boomer population and to participate in rich programs that will reshape the future of aging. The group also promotes student scholarships and career development in gerontology.
