Rep. John Yates Honored as“2010 Friend of Business”

ATLANTA – The Regional Business Coalition (RBC) selected State Representative John Yates (R-Griffin) as a recipient of a “Friend of Business” award for his 100 percent score on RBC supported legislation during the 2009 and 2010 sessions of the Georgia General Assembly. This award is given to members of the Georgia General Assembly who go above and beyond on behalf of issues of importance not only to businesses, but to the entire Metropolitan Atlanta community during the legislative session.

“I look forward to continuing my work and living up to the merits of this high honor,” said Rep. Yates. “As a legislator, it is always my duty to hear concerns and questions from constituents. It is also rewarding to be recognized for helping our local businesses and for helping to bring jobs to Henry, Fayette, and Spalding counties. I enjoy my work and hope to be able to continue making strides for Georgia’s economic development.”

The Friend of Business award was presented to Rep. Yates in the presence of over 50 Henry County business and government leaders participating in an appreciation breakfast, hosted by the Henry County Chamber of Commerce and the Henry County Development Authority on March 9, 2011, at the Georgia State Capitol.

RBC is a recognized leader in identifying and advocating for sustainable solutions that foster greater economic vitality. Rep. Yates was one of a small number of legislators who acquired a 100 percent voting record on eight bills of paramount importance to insuring an adequate supply of quality water and to insuring improvements in Metro Atlanta’s transportation infrastructure for years to come.

“We are appreciative of the leadership provided by Rep Yates. He recognized the need for this important legislation and he stood up for what he believed was right,” said Taylor Rice, Chairman, HCCC Board of Directors and local Henry County businessman.

The Henry Chamber is one of 15 Metro Atlanta Chambers of Commerce composing the Regional Business Coalition. The Henry County Chamber is a nonprofit organization dedicated to improving Henry County’s community and business climate. Founded 40 years ago and accredited with four stars by the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, the Henry County Chamber is a highly proactive and visible influence in Henry County and the entire South Metro Region.
