House Speaker David Ralston Announces Appointments to the Georgia Agricultural Education Advisory Commission

ATLANTA— House Speaker David Ralston (R-Blue Ridge) announced today the appointment of the following members of the Georgia House of Representatives to the Georgia Agricultural Education Advisory Commission:

  • Representative Terry England, Co-Chair (R-Auburn)
  • Representative Jon Burns (R-Newington)
  • Representative Tom Dickson (R-Cohutta)

The Georgia Agricultural Education Advisory Commission periodically reviews the conditions, needs, issues, and problems related to the agricultural education program. It also issues an annual report to the General Assembly and recommends any action or legislation that the commission deems necessary or appropriate.

The commission is composed of three members of the House of Representatives and three members of the Senate. The Speaker of the House makes appointments for the House and the Senate Committee on Assignments makes appointments for the Senate. At least one House appointee must be a member of the House Agriculture & Consumer Affairs and Education committees respectively. Similarly, at least one Senate appointee must be a member of the Senate Agriculture & Consumer Affairs and Education & Youth committees respectively.

Additionally, the Governor appoints three members who are not members of the General Assembly, and the State School Superintendent appoints three members who are not members of the General Assembly. The legislative members of the commission serve for terms concurrent with their terms as members of the General Assembly. The non-legislative members also serve two terms concurrent with the terms of the legislative members of the commission. The Speaker of the House designates a co-chairperson from the House members of the commission and the Senate Committee on Assignments designates a co-chairperson from the Senate members of the Commission.
