Rep. Matt Hatchett Named Governor’s Floor Leader

ATLANTA – Governor Nathan Deal named State Representative Matt Hatchett (R-Dublin) to his House floor leader team, replacing former State Representative Hank Huckaby (R-Watkinsville) who resigned to became chancellor of the University System of Georgia.

“I’m honored by the appointment as one of the Governor’s floor leaders,” Rep. Hatchett said. “I’m excited about working closer with Gov. Deal and his administration in moving our state forward.”

As floor leader, Rep. Hatchett will join a team of three House members who carry the governor’s legislation in the House and who serve as the Governor’s Office liaisons to their fellow members.

“Matt is a freshman member of the House still learning the ropes, but he’s impressed my office with his winning personality and good attitude,” Gov. Deal said. “He’s easy to work with, even as he advocates strongly for his constituents in Middle Georgia. That’s the kind of leader we want on the Deal team. Our other floor leaders Amy Carter and Doug Collins are great examples of that. Matt will be a great addition to this effective team in the House.”

Rep. Hatchett was elected in 2010, after serving 10 years on the Dublin City Council. A small businessman, Hatchett owns a Bruster’s Real Ice Cream and Nathan’s Famous Hot Dogs franchise in Dublin. He previously owned a dry cleaners. Hatchett and his wife Kim also own a women’s clothing store, which Kim runs. Together, they have two daughters, Emily and Camille.

Representative Matt Hatchett represents the citizens of District 143, which includes portions of Johnson and Laurens counties. He currently serves on the Health & Human Services, Economic Development & Tourism, and Defense & Veterans Affairs committees.
