Statement from Rep. Willie Talton Regarding the First Meeting of the Special Council on Criminal Justice Reform

ATLANTA – State Representative Willie Talton (R-Warner Robins) released the following statement today regarding the first meeting of the Special Council on Criminal Justice Reform for Georgians:

“I am extremely honored that Speaker Ralston has chosen me to serve on the Special Council on Criminal Justice Reform,” said Rep. Talton. “With over 41 years of law enforcement experience I believe I have gained valuable knowledge to be an integral part of this reform process. It is important to make sure the punishment fits the crime, but also to impose worthwhile sentences on people who can become productive members of our society. I am grateful to have the opportunity to help rectify the problems facing Georgia’s judicial system today.”

The council, consisting of 13 members chosen by Governor Nathan Deal, House Speaker David Ralston, Lt. Gov. Casey Cagle, and Chief Justice Carol Hunstein, will report its findings no later than Jan. 9, 2012.
