ATLANTA – State Representative Keisha Waites (D-Atlanta) announced today that the “District 60 Extreme Home Makeover” program will soon begin efforts to restore distressed homes and businesses in portions of DeKalb, Fulton, and Clayton counties. The project will be funded by a $5,000 grant that Rep. Waites recently secured from the Home Depot Foundation.
“Like so many other communities across the nation, high unemployment and foreclosure rates have negatively impacted many neighborhoods within House District 60,” said Rep. Waites. “Some streets are plagued by abandoned houses and unkempt yards, which threaten the safety and value of nearby homes. With the generous financial support of the Home Depot Foundation, I will lead a team of dedicated volunteers in launching the first ‘District 60 Extreme Home Makeover’ program. This unique take on the popular ABC television program will unite concerned citizens across District 60 in an effort to better our community.”
The “District 60 Extreme Home Makeover” program will target distressed homes and businesses in Georgia’s 60th state House District, which includes the areas of Fort Gillem, Fort McPherson, and the Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport, as well as the cities of Atlanta, Hapeville, Forest Park, East Point and College Park.
The program will hold its first event this weekend, on Saturday, March 31. During this event more than 100 volunteers are expected to join together with citizens of state House District 60 to beautify landscapes and revitalize the surrounding communities.
