Speaker Ralston Announces Rep. Hamilton as Chair of the Jekyll Island-State Park Authority Oversight Committee

ATLANTA— House Speaker David Ralston (R-Blue Ridge) announced today the appointment of state Representative Mark Hamilton (R-Cumming) as Chair of the Jekyll Island-State Park Authority Oversight Committee, pursuant to O.C.G.A. § 12-3-234(b).

“I am honored that Speaker Ralston has chosen me to chair the Jekyll Island Oversight Committee,” said Rep. Hamilton. “I look forward to working with the committee members and the Jekyll Island Authority to continue to make improvements to this jewel of our state as it provides unique economic development opportunities for Georgia.”

The Jekyll Island-State Park Authority Oversight Committee is responsible for reviewing the authority’s annual financial position and ensuring the authority’s statutory duties and functions are accomplished successfully and in accordance with Georgia law.

The committee is composed of three members of the state House of Representatives and three members of the state Senate. The Speaker of the House makes appointments for the House and the President of the Senate makes appointments for the Senate. Additionally, the Speaker of the House appoints a member who will serve as vice-chairman in odd numbered years and as chairman in even numbered years. The members of the committee serve two-year terms concurrent with their terms as members of the General Assembly.
