ATLANTA – State Representative Roger Williams (R-Dalton) today received confirmation that the Dalton-Whitfield County Public Library has been awarded a Repair and Renovation grant of $27,634 for repairs to the library’s roof and upgrading the doors to better meet the requirements of the Americans with Disabilities Act. News of the grant came after Rep. Williams tirelessly worked alongside the Georgia Public Library Service during this year’s legislative session to secure funding for the much needed repairs to the library.
“I want to thank the Georgia Public Library Service for working with me to secure these much-needed renovation funds for our local library,” said Rep. Williams. “The $27,634 grant, matched with local funds, will not only extend the life of our busy library but also provide local job opportunities during the renovation process.”
Funding for the grant is provided by the Library Bond Fund approved in the Fiscal Year 2013 State Capital Budget.
The current Dalton-Whitfield County Library was constructed in 1982 and includes a genealogy room, a computer lab, historical documents including local newspapers back to 1868, book and audiovisual stack areas, and a children’s department. The library is located at the corner of Waugh and Cappes Streets in Dalton. The collection includes large print materials, audio books, music on CD’s, videos, fiction and non-fiction books and a limited collection of books in Spanish, especially in the life coping skills areas.
