Rep. Jan Tankersley Receives New Leadership Positions

ATLANTA – State Representative Jan Tankersley (R-Brooklet) was elected secretary of the House Rural Caucus, the largest non-partisan caucus in the Georgia House of Representatives. In addition to this substantial leadership position, the Georgia House of Representatives’ Committee on Assignments named Rep. Tankersley as the Vice Chairman of the Appropriations Subcommittee on Economic Development.

“I look forward to working with my colleagues in the Rural Caucus and the rest of the House as we enact the Governor’s economic agenda,” said Rep. Tankersley. “Over the last few years we have enacted economic reforms that have created a better business environment and more jobs for Georgians throughout the state. I look forward to furthering these initiatives and creating even more positive advances for workforce development in our great state.”

Consisting of approximately 55 House members, the Rural Caucus was created eight years ago to address issues affecting rural areas and rural communities. The caucus also elected Representative Jason Shaw (R-Lakeland) as Chairman, Representative Debbie Buckner (D-Junction City) as Vice Chairman, and Representative Tommy Benton (R-Jefferson) as Treasurer.

In addition to her leadership positions in the Rural Caucus and the House Appropriations Subcommittee on Economic Development, Rep. Tankersley will also serve on the Agriculture & Consumer Affairs, Intragovernmental Coordination, and Natural Resources & Environment committees.

The House Committee on Assignments, chaired by House Speaker David Ralston (R-Blue Ridge), is charged with making all House committee assignments for the members of the Georgia House of Representatives.
