“I am grateful to be honored by the Department of Revenue for this recognition,” said Rep. Yates. “House Bill 732 was an important piece of legislation during the 2012 session, and I am happy to see these new license plates being created as a result of our work in the Georgia House of Representatives.”

Rep. Yates was a key sponsor of HB 732 that created the new military medal and veteran license plates during the 2012 legislative session. These new veteran license plates have been created; the previous veteran plates redesigned; and now, all are of these plates are available to veterans statewide through the local county tag offices. This is a result of the efforts over the past months of the staff of Georgia Motor Vehicle Division Director, Vicki Lambert, and the Georgia Department of Revenue Commissioner, Doug MacGinnitie, working together with Georgia lawmakers involved in passage of the legislation, Georgia Department of Veterans Service Commissioner Pete Wheeler and his staff, state Veteran Service Organizations, and military/veteran interest groups.

“I would like to thank Rep. Yates for his service to his country as well as his service to Georgia in the General Assembly,” said Commissioner McGinnitie. “It was with his leadership and action that we are able to produce these plates honoring veterans such as him. I am proud to have worked with Representative Yates, the Department of Veterans Affairs, and other veterans and veterans organizations on putting these plates on the road.”

There are 95 new and redesigned plates that are now available in county tag offices. The new military plates now feature the United States flag in the background. The new license plates also allow for branch specific campaign/Tour of Duty for those who served in the War in Iraq and War in Afghanistan as well as Service Award License Plates for recipients of 15 military medals.
