Rep. Alisha Thomas Morgan to Travel to China for Educational Leaders’ Group
ATLANTA – State Representative Alisha Thomas Morgan (D-Austell),will travel to China this month with the Kennesaw State University Chinese Bridge Summer Camp for Educators. The agenda will allow the educational delegation to visit various schools in China throughout the duration of the trip.
“I’m elated to have been selected and join some of Georgia’s best and brightest educators to travel to China,” said Rep. Morgan. “It’s vital to expose ourselves to best practices from around the world as we work to ensure Georgia’s students can compete globally.”
Representative Morgan, along with other educational leaders, will embark this week on a nearly two week trip to China through The Confucius Institute at Kennesaw State University. While in China, the group will travel to Shanghai, Yangzhou, and Beijing, to visit and observe various schools and grade levels. The group will also have the opportunity to meet with Chinese educational leaders. In addition, they will also be attending educational lectures and culture classes.
The program is intended to provide learning opportunities for Georgia educators, and to promote the exchange of information between China’s education system and that of the U.S. The program also strives to enrich the understanding of Chinese language and culture, and for educators to bring Chinese language and culture back to their school districts and individual schools.
Kennesaw State University partnered with Yangzhou University in China to establish the Confucius Institute. The nonprofit Confucius Institute at KSU promotes the study of Chinese language, culture, ethics, and philosophy, and furthers the understanding of China today. With the establishment of this prestigious institute at KSU, the university has become a key resource in developing networks with China, the world’s fastest-growing economy, while serving the growing educational and business communities in the Atlanta area, as well as the Southeastern United States.
Representative Alisha Thomas Morgan represents the citizens of District 39, which includes portions of Cobb County.
