Rep. Jason Shaw Highlights Local Insurance Issues with Regulators at National Meeting

ATLANTA— State Representative Jason Shaw (R-Lakeland) recently attended the National Association of Insurance Commissioners (NAIC) Summer National Meeting in Indianapolis, Indiana.

“Regulators and legislators need to be on the same page when addressing critical financial issues in our state,” said Rep. Shaw. “Many states share the same concerns as we do in Georgia and we all benefit from these open dialogues where we can learn from each other, as well as share insights into what works.”

The NAIC invited Rep. Shaw to join more than 30 legislators from 26 states and territories to consult with insurance regulators from across the country at its 209th National Meeting. The ongoing mission of NAIC is to encourage state policymakers to provide input on regulatory issues. Rep. Shaw engaged regulators on state and regional issues that impact insurance consumers including modernization of the regulatory framework, ongoing market regulation activities and promotion of the insurance marketplace.

“Protecting constituents is at the core of what I do,” said Rep. Shaw. “And this meeting was the perfect forum to gather information and build relationships that impact insurance policyholders in our state.”

The NAIC is the U.S. standard-setting and regulatory support organization created and governed by the chief insurance regulators from the 50 states, the District of Columbia and five U.S. territories. Through the NAIC, state insurance regulators establish standards and best practices, conduct peer review, and coordinate their regulatory oversight. NAIC staff supports these efforts and represents the collective views of state regulators domestically and internationally. NAIC members, together with the central resources of the NAIC, form the national system of state-based insurance regulation in the U.S.
