Rep. Katie Dempsey Plays Key Role in Speaker Ralston’s First Day Leading the House

ATLANTA— Today, following the election of David Ralston (R-Blue Ridge) as Speaker of the Georgia House of Representatives, state Representative Katie Dempsey (R-Rome) was selected by the incoming House Speaker to help lead the Speaker’s Escort Committee. As a part of the committee, Representative Dempsey helped lead Speaker Ralston to the rostrum in the House Chamber for the exchanging of the gavel.

“I was privileged to escort our new Speaker, David Ralston, down the center aisle on this historic occasion,” said Rep. Dempsey. “I look forward to his leadership as we tackle the tough issues facing our state today.”

The Speaker’s Escort Committee is a ceremonial group of state Representatives held in high regard by the newly elected Speaker of the House. The group welcomes the Speaker to his new role and leads him to the Speaker’s rostrum, the podium from which the Speaker will lead the Georgia House of Representatives.

Other members of the Speaker’s Escort Committee included the following state Representatives: Tim Bearden, Bill Hembree, Roger Lane, Doug Collins, Melvin Everson, Kevin Levitas, Amy Carter, John Meadows, and Terry England.
