Rep. Harry Geisinger Named to the Southern States Energy Board Executive Committee

ATLANTA— State Representative Harry Geisinger (R-Roswell) was recently selected as a member of the Southern States Energy Board’s (SSEB) Executive Committee. The announcement was made at the 53rd annual meeting in Biloxi, Mississippi.

“Energy issues are currently at the forefront of discussions in the Administration, Congress and the states and are inextricably tied to debates on the economy, environment and national security,” said Rep. Geisinger. “I am pleased to serve in a leadership role because SSEB’s input and influence on policy has never been more crucial.”

The Southern States Energy Board is an interstate compact, comprised of governors and state legislators from sixteen southern states, Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands, as well as a presidential appointee. The Board’s mission is to promote economic development and enhance the quality of life in the South, through innovations in energy and environmental programs, policies and technologies.

“Representative Geisinger was a unanimous selection by our nominating committee because of his incredible vision and understanding of complex energy and environmental issues,” said Ken Nemeth, Secretary and Executive Director of the Board. “As the former Administrator of the Southeastern Power Administration under President Reagan, he understands the importance of utilizing America’s vast energy resources for abundant and affordable clean power.”

Alabama Governor Robert Bentley was elected as SSEB’s chairman. The other Executive Committee members elected with Representative Geisinger are Chairman-Elect – Governor Earl Ray Tomblin, West Virginia; Vice-Chairman – Representative Rocky Adkins, Kentucky; Treasurer – Representative Myra Crownover, Texas; Members – Governor Phil Bryant, Mississippi; Governor Mike Beebe, Arkansas; Senator Robert Adley, Louisiana; Representative Weldon Watson, Oklahoma; and Senate Mark Norris, Tennessee.

Representative Harry Geisinger represents the citizens of District 48, which includes portions of Fulton County. He was first elected into the House of Representatives in 1969-1974, and was then was sworn in again in 2005. He currently serves as the Vice-Chairman of the Energy, Utilities & Telecommunications Committee, and the Secretary of the Natural Resources & Environment Committee. He also serves on the MARTOC and Transportation committees.
