Rep. Harden during his visit to the Veteran High School farm with Dr. Walker, Rachael and Clara, the cow.

“It was a great opportunity to be able to visit Veterans High School for the Georgia Military Child Education Training,” said Rep. Harden. “Our military families and their children make tremendous sacrifices for this country, and it is important that we continue to promote education among those families.”

The Houston County Board of Education collaborated with Robins Air Force Base to present the Georgia Military Child Education Training. The goal of this training is to provide educators with tools to help children reach their full potential in school.

The topics discussed at the event were of particular interest to all who serve military families in their schools. Topics included: Interstate Compact on Military Child Education, national issues facing military families, and current trends in education in our state. The conference concluded with a discussion on 2013-2014 goals in regards to military child education in Georgia.

Attendees of this event included military installation commanders from across the state, Board of Education superintendents from school systems serving military families, Department of Education representatives and state legislators.

In addition to attending the event, Rep. Harden also had the opportunity to tour the farm at Veterans High School after the training event. Rep. Harden met with Dr. Clay Walker, an agricultural teacher at Veterans High, Rachael Woodyard, an agriculture student and FFA member, and Dr. Barbara Wall, Director of Career, Technical, and Agricultural Education. The Veterans High School farm was added to the school’s campus in April of 2013.

Representative Buddy Harden represents the citizens of District 148, which includes Crisp, Pulaski, and Wilcox Counties, and portions of Houston County. He was elected into the House of Representatives in 2008, and he currently serves as Vice Chairman on the Agriculture & Consumer Affairs and the Natural Resources & Environment committees, and Secretary on the Small Business Development committees. He also serves on the Appropriations, Banks & Banking, and Health & Human Services committees.
