Rep. Morgan Honors Education Heroes of January Snow Storm

ATLANTA – State Representative Alisha Thomas Morgan (D-Austell) will honor individuals from the education community across Metro Atlanta at the State Capitol this week for their dedicated service during the January 28 snow storm event.

“The January 28 snow storm was a trying time for our entire community, especially for our children,” said Rep. Morgan. “That they were able to survive is in no small way thanks to the numerous teachers, bus drivers, paraprofessionals, administrators and good Samaritans from the community that put the safety of our children above their own.”

More than 40 local teachers, principals, bus drivers, parents and community members from various schools across the metro area were nominated to be honored for going above and beyond the call of duty to make sure students were safe and comfortable during the inclement weather event that kept many students at school, or on school buses, overnight.

The honorees, known as “SNOWJAM Heroes,” will be honored on Wednesday, February 26, 2014 during a private breakfast reception at the State Capitol, sponsored by the Georgia Association of Educators, followed by a presentation by Rep. Morgan in the House Chamber of the House of Representatives for the honorees that are in attendance. Members of the public from across the state were asked to submit nominations on Rep. Morgan’s website for honorees, whom were chosen from across the metro Atlanta region.

“On behalf of my colleagues and our state, I want to extend sincere thanks to these heroes across the state,” added Rep. Morgan. “This is the least we can do to honor these outstanding individuals for all that they did on Jan. 28, and all they do every day on behalf of our children.”
