Rep. Dee Dawkins-Haigler Celebrates District 91 Education Day

ATLANTA – State Representative Dee Dawkins-Haigler (D-Lithonia) recently honored local teachers, principals and PTA presidents at the State Capitol as part of District 91 Education Day.

“Our local teachers, principals and PTA presidents should be recognized today and every day for their outstanding contributions to schools,” said Rep. Dawkins-Haigler. “These dedicated educators and leaders enhance the lives of our children, providing them with the tools they need to follow their dreams.”

Principals honored at District 91 Education Day were Allison Barbour, Sims Elementary; Tonya Bloodworth, Salem High School; Kerby Bullard, Martin Luther King, Jr. High School; Susan Freeman, Flat Shoals Elementary; Greg Fowler, Heritage High School; Jeffrey Jenkins, Farrington Elementary; Sheila Johnson-Reese, Salem Middle School; Andrea McMahan, Memorial Middle School; Fred Middleton, Edwards Middle School; Zack Phillips, Flat Rock Elementary; Angelique Smith, Murphey Candler Elementary; Rodney Swanson, Arabia Mountain High School; and Kay Symons, Honey Creek Elementary.

Teachers of the Year honored were Tanya Arrington, Murphey Candler Elementary; Pam Atkins, Honey Creek Elementary; Ella Davis, Arabia Mountain High School; Steven Havick, Salem High School; Travis Kimber, Martin Luther King, Jr. High School; Gladys Lattimore, Salem Middle School; Kim Mathis, Memorial Middle School; Lillian Patterson, Flat Shoals Elementary; Elizabeth Prince, Farrington Elementary; April Roberts, Edwards Middle School; Hillary Simpson, Sims Elementary; and Samantha Swaney, Heritage High School.

PTA Presidents honored were Robert Carter, Heritage High School; Kim Craighead, Flat Rock Elementary; Roshunda Fuller, Flat Shoals Elementary; Robert Gunnison, Sims Elementary; Charlene Jones, Salem High School; Shanitra Jones, Memorial Middle School; Kimberly Lynn, Edwards Middle School; Jamie Parker, Honey Creek Elementary; Jamar Robinson, Martin Luther King, Jr. High School; Clovis Terrell, Salem Middle School; and Misty Weaver, Murphey Candler Elementary.

Sabreen Mateen and Keith Lamar, Sr. were recognized as Outstanding Georgia citizens for their work with the DeKalb County PTA’s.

Representative Dee Dawkins-Haigler represents the citizens of District 91, which includes portions of DeKalb and Rockdale counties. She was elected into the House of Representatives in 2008, and currently serves on the Banks & Banking, Human Relations & Aging, and Industry and Labor committees.
