ATLANTA – State Representative Tom Kirby (R-Loganville) recently welcomed Doug Hollandsworth, Founder of Georgia Golf & Travel LLC, to the State Capitol.

“I was pleased to visit with Doug at the State Capitol. He is doing a fantastic job in promoting Georgia as a great golf destination,” said Rep. Kirby. “As home to the Master’s Tournament, Georgia already has a great reputation for golf. However, I believe that golf tourism has the potential to bring even more revenue and tourism into Georgia.”

According to Hollandsworth, states like Florida, Alabama and South Carolina have well-developed golf tourism programs that have been successful in increasing the number of golfers and golf revenue in those states. Golf revenue in Florida has grown from $2 billion to $7 billion in 14 years. Alabama’s golf revenue has grown from $400 million to $2 billion in the last 20 years, and South Carolina’s golf revenue has grown from $700 million to $3 billion in the last 15 years.

“From the mountains to the coast, Georgia has some great golf venues, and we want to tell the world about our great state,” said Hollandsworth.

Hollandsworth, a 25 year veteran in the golf media business, founded Georgia Golf & Travel LLC in 2013 to promote strategic marketing programs that advertise Georgia as a premier golf destination to the world through a diverse and multi-media marketing and awareness campaign. The core objective of the initiative is to drive tourism and increase stay-and-play opportunities at Georgia’s top resorts, golf destinations and other attractions throughout the state.

Representative Tom Kirby represents the citizens of District 114, which includes portions of Barrow, Gwinnett, Rockdale, and Walton counties. He was elected into the House of Representatives in 2012, and serves as the Vice Chairman on the Human Relations & Aging Committee and Secretary on the Industry and Labor Committee. He also serves on the Agriculture & Consumer Affairs and the Small Business Development committees.
