Rep. Jason Spencer to Continue to Focus on Anti-Obamacare Legislation, Hopes to Work Alongside Chambers of Commerce and Hospital Association

ATLANTA – State Representative Jason Spencer (R-Woodbine) today offered to collaborate with the Georgia Chamber of Commerce, the Metro Atlanta Chamber of Commerce, and the Georgia Hospital Association in an effort to continue to better Georgia’s health care industry. In working with these organizations, Rep. Spencer seeks to join forces to uphold free market principles throughout Georgia’s health care industry that will benefit both providers and consumers.

“I am proud that I, like the soldiers who endured Valley Forge, love liberty better than riches snatched from government coffers,” said Rep. Spencer. “I, and my fellow liberty minded conservative Republicans, will not surrender freedom of religion to the Golden Calf. We will not surrender opposition to Obamacare to the opulence of federal dollars. We will not surrender free markets to state enforced monopolies to pamper and to enrich Georgia’s health care industry.”

During this year’s legislative session, Rep. Spencer authored legislation which establishes that neither the State of Georgia, nor any of its departments, will use money or human resources to advance the voluntary expansion of the state’s eligibility in the Affordable Care Act. The bill also prohibits a state-run insurance exchange, state acceptance of federal grant money for a state insurance exchange, and prohibits the continuation of the University of Georgia’s Health Navigator Program. Rep. Spencer originally introduced this legislation in HB 707, and ultimately, the language of HB 707 was contained in HB 943. HB 943 was signed into law by Governor Deal on Tuesday, April 29, 2014.

“I intend to build on my pioneering initiative to enact HB 707 by supporting supplementary legislation in the future to defang Obamacare in Georgia,” added Rep. Spencer. “I will continue to work through the legislative process during the 2015 legislative session to advance protections for Georgians against Obamacare.”

Representative Jason Spencer represents the citizens of District 180, which includes Camden, Charlton, and Ware counties. He was elected into the House of Representatives in 2010, is currently serving on the Game Fish & Parks, Human Relations & Aging, Juvenile Justice, and Special Rules committees.
