Rep. Hamilton Receives Georgia Chamber Legislator of the Year Award

ATLANTA — State Representative Mark Hamilton (R- Cumming) recently received the 2014 Legislator of the Year Award from the Georgia Chamber of Commerce.

“I am humbled and honored to receive such an esteemed award from the Georgia Chamber of Commerce,” said Rep. Hamilton. “As a state legislator, one of my top priorities is bringing jobs to the state of Georgia as this is something that affects us all and will shape the economic future for our children and grandchildren. I’m proud that the Georgia Chamber recognizes my efforts, and I look forward to working with them in the future as we continue to create business-friendly policies in our state.”

The Georgia Chamber chose Rep. Hamilton for this award based on his support of policies that promote job growth and economic development in Georgia. Additionally, Rep. Hamilton received an A+ on the Georgia Chamber’s 2014 Legislative Scorecard for the 2013-2014 legislative term. During the 2014 legislative session, Rep. Hamilton authored House Bills 714, 715, and 1048, and co-authored House Bills 399, 892, 902, 863, 1037, 838, and 176, all of which have been signed into law by Governor Deal.

“Representative Hamilton helped shepherd one of the Chamber’s top priorities through the legislative process this year,” said the Georgia Chamber’s Government Affairs Council Chair Roy Robinson. “With his help, we have ensured a level playing field for all businesses that are required to pay into the state’s unemployment insurance trust fund. This may not have been the highest profile issue, but is one that directly impacts every company in Georgia’s bottom line.”

The Georgia Chamber presents its Legislator of the Year awards annually after the conclusion of the legislative session and the release of its legislative scorecard. Other legislators to receive the award were Senator Fran Millar (R-Atlanta) and Representative Sam Watson (R-Moultrie).

The Georgia Chamber of Commerce is Georgia’s largest business advocacy organization. It is focused is on keeping, growing and creating new jobs throughout the state of Georgia. The organization has an aggressive, proactive approach to state policy issues, and it transcends regional boundaries to create a state-wide network of business leaders working to help Georgia’s economy thrive.

Representative Mark Hamilton represents the citizens of District 24, which includes portions of Forsyth County. He was elected into the House of Representatives in 2006 and currently serves as Chairman of the Industry and Labor Committee. He also serves on the Appropriations, Energy, Utilities, & Telecommunications, Governmental Affairs, Rules, and Transportation committees.
