ATLANTA – House Speaker David Ralston (R-Blue Ridge) today announced the appointment of State Representative Barbara Sims (R-Augusta) to serve on the Capitol Arts Standards Commission.
“It is an honor to be appointed by Speaker Ralston to serve on this committee,” said Rep. Sims. “Our state has a rich history and by creating and placing various art forms around our Capitol, we will allow many future generations to visit and continue to learn about the state of Georgia for years to come.”
The House Committee on Assignments, chaired by House Speaker David Ralston (R-Blue Ridge), is charged with making all House committee assignments for the members of the Georgia House of Representatives. Rep. Sims was appointed to serve the unfulfilled term of the late State Representative Calvin Hill. The appointment is concurrent with Rep. Sims’ service as a member of the Georgia House of Representatives for the 2013-2014 legislative term of the General Assembly.
The Capitol Art Standards Commission is composed of 16 members who are responsible for developing policies and procedures for the acquisition, installation, preservation, maintenance, display, and storage of all capitol artwork that is displayed in or on the grounds of the capitol. The Commission is also responsible for making recommendations to the Governor and the General Assembly regarding changes in state statutes, policies, budgets, and standards relating to the capitol art collection.
Representative Barbara Sims represents the citizens of District 123, which includes portions of Columbia and Richmond counties. She was elected into the House of Representatives in 2006, and currently serves as the Chairman of the State Properties Committee and Secretary of the Economic Development & Tourism Committee. She also serves on the Appropriations, Health & Human Services, Rules, and Transportation committees.
