Rep. Mike Glanton Appointed to the Role of the Federal Government in Education Study Committee

ATLANTA – House Speaker David Ralston (R-Blue Ridge) today announced the appointment of State Representative Mike Glanton (D-Jonesboro) to the House Study Committee on the Role of the Federal Government in Education.

“It is an honor and a privilege to be appointed to this study committee,” said Rep. Glanton. “As state legislators, we must review all aspects of Common Core and consider the advantages and disadvantages of working with the federal government on education standards. Doing so is crucial to ensuring a bright future for our children and grandchildren.”

The House Study Committee on the Role of the Federal Government in Education, created by House Resolution 550, is charged with reviewing the effects of the federal government’s ties to Common Core standards. The committee will also identify any agreements between the state and federal government related to Common Core and determine what liabilities could be incurred by the taxpayers of this state if any part of existing programs is terminated prematurely.
