ATLANTA— State Representative Keisha Waites (D-Atlanta) recently participated in the Senior Executives in State and Local Government program at Harvard University’s John F. Kennedy School of Government. She was one of three fellows for the June 2014 class where she completed a three week program designed to improve skills and further the leadership potential of accomplished individuals from across the United States.
“The Harvard Kennedy School leadership experience provided me with tangible solutions to take back to my home state of Georgia and my district to continue the work of resolving the day-to-day challenges that we face,” said Rep. Waites. “This has been an invaluable experience that not only has benefited me both personally and professionally, but I am confident that it will benefit the citizens of Georgia that I proudly serve.”
The Senior Executives in State and Local Government program at Harvard University’s John F. Kennedy School of Government provides a hands-on learning experience to help public officials meet the changing needs of their constituents and communities. The three-week program operates as an interactive classroom, where faculty and participants work together on real-life case studies and exchange information and knowledge from one another. Some of the highlights of the program including learning new strategies to address complex policy issues, examining innovative partnerships and new models of collaborative governance, exploring the relationship between citizens and their government, and understanding the behavioral dimensions of decision-making.
“I am very excited about my experience at the Harvard Kennedy School and the concepts that I learned from the highly decorated faulty,” said Rep. Waites. “This unique experience will better prepare me to tackle tough issues and deliver more results for the constituents I serve. I remain committed to advocating for economic development throughout my district due to prime assets, like as Hartsfield Jackson International Airport, as well as to regional transportation solutions like the high speed rail.”
Representative Keisha Waites represents the citizens of District 60, which includes portions of Clayton and Fulton counties. She was elected into the House of Representatives in 2012, and currently serves on the Interstate Cooperation, Juvenile Justice, Public Safety and Homeland Security, Special Rules, and Transportation committees.
