ATLANTA— State Representative Valencia Stovall (D-Lake City) recently received the Legislative Champion for Choice award from the American Federation for Children.
“I was overjoyed to be honored for my efforts to ensure that every child in Georgia, regardless of income, can have access to a high quality education,” said Rep. Stovall. “Education is not a partisan issue; the parents could care less whether we are a democrat or republican, but they are concerned about the quality of their children’s education and what is being done to address it.”
The Champion for Choice is an award given to an elected official, or other prominent voice for school choice, who has stood out as a supporter of educational options.
The American Federation for Children was launched in January 2010, when America’s leading private school choice organizations worked together to create a structure for the advancement of school choice. The American Federation for Children and its sister organization, the Alliance for School Choice, seek to improve the nation’s K-12 education by advancing public policy that empowers parents, particularly those in low-income families, to choose the education they determine is best for their children.
Representative Valencia Stovall represents the citizens of District 74, which includes portions of Clayton County. She was elected into the House of Representatives in 2012, and currently serves on the Code Revision, Interstate Cooperation, and Small Business Development committees.
