Rep. Valencia Stovall Assigned to Education Committee for 2015-2016 Legislative Term

ATLANTA – The Georgia House of Representatives’ Committee on Assignments recently appointed State Representative Valencia Stovall (D-Lake City) to the Education Committee. Rep Stovall will also serve as a member of the Code Revision, Interstate Cooperation and Small Business Development committees.

“Education is an area that impacts every citizen of our state and is a key cornerstone for economic development,” said Rep. Stovall. “It’s imperative that we focus on ensuring that our students can compete globally by allowing more flexibility for educators, offering students innovative and progressive options, ensuring our systems are fiscally responsible and by empowering parents to be stronger advocates for their students.”

Rep. Stovall’s educational background includes serving as former Board Chair of Scholars Academy Special State Charter School, former Executive Board Member of Atlanta Council of PTAs, Career, Technical, and Agricultural Education (CTAE) Advisory Board Member for Clayton County Public Schools, Advisory Board Member for Utopian Academy for the Arts, and Treasurer for Clayton State University Dean of Arts & Science Advisory Board. Rep. Stovall has also served on multiple local school councils and launched an Educators Advisory Council.

The House Committee on Assignments, chaired by House Speaker David Ralston (R-Blue Ridge), is charged with making all House committee assignments for the members of the Georgia House of Representatives.

Representative Valencia Stovall represents the citizens of District 74, which includes portions of Clayton County. She was elected into the House of Representatives in 2012, and currently serves on the Code Revision, Education, Interstate Cooperation, and Small Business Development committees.
