Rep. Erica Thomas Comments on Google Fiber Expansion

ATLANTA – State Representative Erica Thomas (D-Austell) today commented on the announcement that Google Fiber will be expanding its high-speed internet service to the metro Atlanta area:

Today, distinguished leaders and community members joined together as this transformative announcement was made: Google Fiber is coming to Atlanta,” said Rep. Thomas. “Last year, Google Fiber proposed this innovative, world-class initiative to over 30 U.S. cities in an effort to bring gigabyte internet directly into these respective communities. Today, Google announced that Fiber is coming to 18 of those cities, including Smyrna, Georgia.

“All across our nation, from the White House to South Cobb Parkway, people are talking about speed efficiency, particularly speed that builds a competitive global edge. Google Fiber is the epitome of efficiency. The speed provided by networks such as this supports the next generation of entrepreneurs by building the next big industry; thereby spurring economic growth in sectors that did not previously exist. Because of these initiatives, our communities, tech and other startup companies will continue to thrive. I look forward to participating in the greater conversation about bringing more of this type of innovation into South Cobb County.”

Representative Erica Thomas represents the citizens of District 39, which includes portions of Cobb County. She was elected into the House of Representatives in 2014, and currently serves on the Juvenile Justice, Science and Technology, and Budget and Fiscal Affairs Oversight committees.
