ATLANTA — The Georgia Water Coalition (GWC) recently honored State Representative Scott Holcomb (D-Atlanta) with a Clean Water Champion Award at their Spring Partner meeting in Covington on Tuesday, May 12, 2015. Rep. Holcomb was honored for his support of Georgia’s rivers, lakes, groundwater and streams during the 2015 legislative session.
“I’m very grateful for this recognition and I am proud to be named as a Clean Water Champion by the Georgia Water Coalition,” said Rep. Holcomb. “I appreciate the work they do to raise awareness of water issues in the legislature and across the state.”
The Georgia Water Coalition is an association of more than 200 conservation and environmental organizations, hunting and fishing groups, businesses, and community organizations that have been working to protect Georgia’s water since 2002. Their mission is “to protect and care for Georgia’s water resources, which are essential for sustaining Georgia’s prosperity, providing clean and abundant drinking water, preserving diverse aquatic habitats for wildlife and recreation, and strengthening property values.” It is estimated that their organization encompasses more than 250,000 Georgians, while consistently expanding their reach.
“I firmly believe that Georgia should promote policies that support growth and protect the environment. These twin goals are mutually dependent, not mutually exclusive. In particular, we must ensure that every Georgian has access to clean water,” added Rep. Holcomb.
