Rep. Coomer Appointed as Chairman of House Transportation Committee, Rep. Dempsey Appointed as Member

ATLANTA – The Georgia House of Representatives’ Committee on Assignments recently appointed State Representatives Christian Coomer (R-Cartersville) and Katie Dempsey (R-Rome) to serve on the House Transportation Committee. Rep. Coomer was named by the Committee on Assignments as the Chairman of the House Transportation Committee, and Rep. Dempsey was appointed to serve as a member of the Committee.

“I am honored to be appointed to serve the citizens of the 14th district through this leadership role,” said Rep. Coomer.  “I look forward to addressing our statewide transportation needs, as well as our local needs, through the work of this committee.”

Dempsey. “I am grateful to be asked to serve on this important committee under the leadership of my friend and fellow Floyd County delegation member, Chairman Coomer. I look forward to working with him in this new capacity as we assess transportation needs in Floyd County and throughout Georgia.”

The House Committee on Assignments, chaired by House Speaker David Ralston (R-Blue Ridge), is charged with making all House committee assignments for the members of the Georgia House of Representatives.

Representative Christian Coomer represents the citizens of District 14, which includes portions of Bartow and Floyd counties. He was elected into the House of Representatives in 2010, and currently serves as Chairman of the Transportation Committee. He also serves on the Appropriations Subcommittee on Public Safety and the Banks & Banking, Judiciary Non-Civil, Juvenile Justice, and Retirement committees.

Representative Katie Dempsey represents the citizens of District 13, which includes portions of Floyd County. She was elected into the House of Representatives in 2006, and currently serves as the Chair of the House Appropriations Subcommittee on Human Resources. She also serves on the Rules, Economic Development and Tourism, Energy, Utilities, and Telecommunications, Health and Human Services, Transportation and Higher Education committees.
