ATLANTA — The Georgia Water Coalition (GWC) honored State Representative Debbie Buckner (D-Junction City) Wednesday with a Clean Water Champion Award at their meeting celebrating “Paddle Georgia” in Effingham County. Rep. Buckner was honored for her support of Georgia’s rivers, lakes, groundwater and streams during the 2015 legislative session.
“I am humbled and honored by this recognition from the Georgia Water Coalition,” said Rep. Buckner. “It is truly a pleasure and a privilege to work with Coalition members on their mission to care for and protect Georgia’s waterways.”
The Georgia Water Coalition is an association of more than 200 conservation and environmental organizations, hunting and fishing groups, businesses, and community organizations that have been working to protect Georgia’s water since 2002. Their mission is “to protect and care for Georgia’s water resources, which are essential for sustaining Georgia’s prosperity, providing clean and abundant drinking water, preserving diverse aquatic habitats for wildlife and recreation, and strengthening property values.” It is estimated that their organization encompasses more than 250,000 Georgians, while consistently expanding their reach.
“It is my hope and my prayer that one day soon, all of Georgia’s water sources will be drinkable,” said Rep. Buckner. “We must make clean water initiatives a priority.”
Representative Debbie Buckner represents the citizens of District 137, which includes all of Talbot County, and portions of Harris, Meriwether, and Muscogee counties. She was elected into the House of Representatives in 2002, and currently serves on the Natural Resources & Environment, Retirement, State Properties, and Ways & Means committees.
