Rep. Alex Atwood Successfully Completes Republican Leadership for Georgia

ATLANTA – State Representative Alex Atwood (R-St. Simons Island) announced today his recent completion of the Republican Leadership for Georgia (RLG) program as a member of the 2015 class. The RLG is designed to produce trained leaders who are willing to serve and assist others, are committed to the tradition of full participation in the political process, and believe in Republican principles.

“I am indeed humbled and honored to have been selected and allowed to participate in this excellent program,” said Rep. Atwood. “Words cannot express the respect I hold for both Representative Dempsey and President Robinson. They are both outstanding leaders whose support, advice, and kindness I will long seek and remember. I cannot thank them enough for this experience.”

Rep. Atwood was nominated to the RLG class of 2015 by State Representative Katie Dempsey (R-Rome), Subcommittee Chair to the House Appropriations Committee, and Ruby Robinson, State President of the Georgia Federation of Republican Women.

Based on the vision of the late Senator Paul Coverdell, the RLG program continues the role historically undertaken by the former Coverdell Leadership Institute (CLI) consisting primarily of 10 monthly weekend sessions held throughout Georgia and Washington, D.C. from September through June.  The sessions covered a range of topics, including constitutional, ethical, criminal justice, national and international affairs, and legislative issues and processes.

“It has certainly been rewarding work,” said Rep. Atwood. “I am grateful for the opportunity, and look forward to watching the program continue to grow in the future.”

Representative Alex Atwood represents the citizens of District 179, which includes portions of Glynn County. He was elected into the House of Representatives in 2010, and currently serves as a member of the Appropriations Committee and as a member on the Insurance, Juvenile Justice, Judiciary Non-Civil, and Public Safety and Homeland Security Committees.
