Representative Jill Chambers’ Work Results in Stronger Ethics Code for Marta Board

Atlanta- On Tuesday, Representative Jill Chambers (R-Atlanta) addressed fellow House members on the Floor with the presentations of Senate Bills 99. After the bill favorably passed the Senate, it was transferred over to the House and assigned to Chambers, who chairs the House MARTOC Committee, addressing important legislation pertaining to the MARTA system of public transportation.

Senate Bill 99, the MARTA Act, addresses the code of ethics and conflicts of interests of MARTA board members. This legislation strengthens the MARTA Act provision regarding the removal of a member of the board of directors found in violation of a provision of a code of ethics approved by the Board. The bill passed the House Floor unanimously, showing strong bipartisan support, without the addition of floor amendments.

“I was surprised to find out this simple provision was not already addressed, given the public’s interest in improving ethics in our state.”

On that very same day, Chairman Chambers was named in the March 15, 2005 issue of James Magazine as “One of the Most Influential People in Georgia.” James Magazine is owned by Insider Advantage, which also publishes Bill Shipp’s weekly political newsletter.

Jill is also an active member of the Appropriations, Education and Public Safety Committees of the House.
