Speaker David Ralston Appoints Rep. Matt Hatchett to Jekyll Island-State Park Oversight Committee

ATLANTA – Speaker of the House David Ralston (R-Blue Ridge) has appointed Representative Matt Hatchett (R-Dublin) as a member of the Jekyll Island-State Park Oversight Committee.

“Jekyll Island is one of Georgia’s greatest treasures, and I am proud to have Chairman Hatchett join the General Assembly committee entrusted with its stewardship,” said Speaker David Ralston. “Matt is a well-respected leader in the House, and I know I can rely on him to keep the bests interests of our state at heart in this important role.”

“I appreciate the Speaker’s trust and the opportunity to serve on this committee,” said Representative Matt Hatchett. “We have a great team in place at the Jekyll Island Authority, and I look forward to helping them care for and promote Jekyll Island.”

Representative Hatchett will fill the unexpired term of former state representative Jay Roberts.

Representative Hatchett represents the citizens of District 150, which includes portions of Johnson, Laurens, and Treutlen counties. He was elected into the House of Representatives in 2010, and currently serves as the Chairman of the House Republican Caucus.

He also serves on the Appropriations Subcommittee on General Government, Rules, Ethics, Economic Development & Tourism, Energy, Utilities & Telecommunications, and Health & Human Services committees.

The Jekyll Island-State Park Oversight Committee is a joint committee of the General Assembly, and that committee advises the General Assembly on the compliance of the Jekyll Island Authority with its governing directives.

The Jekyll Island Authority is a self-supporting state agency responsible for the overall management and stewardship of Jekyll Island, obtaining its operating revenues from leases, fees, and island amenity operations. This income is used to maintain, develop, beautify, and promote Jekyll Island as a public beach resort and a world-class vacation and meeting destination. Jekyll Island does not receive any tax revenues for its operation. Through an act of the state legislature, the Jekyll Island Authority was created to oversee the conservation, development and management of Jekyll Island.
