Rep. Valencia Stovall Appointed to DECAL Quality Rated Advisory Committee

ATLANTA – State Representative Valencia Stovall (D-Lake City) was recently appointed to serve as a member of the inaugural Department of Early Care and Learning’s (DECAL) Quality Rated Advisory Committee.

“I am overjoyed to receive this appointment, which will play an integral role in the future of early education in Georgia,” said Rep. Stovall.  “Being a member of the Early Education Sub-Committee of Governor Deal’s Education Reform Commission has afforded me the opportunity to gain knowledge of the inner workings of our fantastic early child-care facilities, while also being part of the recommendations for sustainability, all of which will prove to be beneficial as I serve on the committee.”

“I look forward to working with the first Quality Rated Advisory Committee,” said DECAL Commissioner Amy M. Jacobs. “This important committee is composed of representatives from the Georgia General Assembly, large child-care chains, individually-owned child-care businesses, family day care homes, for-profit and nonprofit child care, and child-care professional organizations. Their diverse experiences and perspectives will help Georgia achieve its goal of 100% of eligible child-care providers participating in Quality Rated by the end of 2017.”

The 20 member committee, appointed by Commissioner Jacobs, will guide and foster growth for the Quality Rated program, Georgia’s community powered child-care rating system. Members will serve a one-year term and will provide direct feedback to DECAL about the Quality Rated process to increase awareness and participation.
