Rep. Lee Hawkins Celebrates Constitution Day with Local Elementary School

ATLANTA – State Representative Lee Hawkins (R-Gainesville) recently visited Sardis Elementary School in Gainesville to distribute copies of the United States Constitutions to students in honor of Constitution Day.

“I was happy to spend Constitution Day with the students of Sardis Elementary to help educate them on one of our country’s most sacred documents,” said Rep. Hawkins. “These students are our future, and it is important that they understand this document’s relevancy and influence on our nation’s history.”

Also known as Citizenship Day, Constitution Day was founded in 2005 to commemorate the signing of the United States Constitution on September 17, 1787.  On this day, the U.S. Department of Education provides all schools receiving federal funds with educational materials to teach students the significance of the date and the document for which we celebrate.

Representative Lee Hawkins represents the citizens of District 27, which includes portions of Hall and White counties. He was elected into the House of Representatives in 2012, and currently serves as the Vice Chairman on the Health & Human Services Committee. He also serves on the House Appropriations Subcommittee on Health and the Insurance and Regulated Industries committees.
