Eminent Domain Bill Passes Unanimously in Judiciary Committee

State Representative Steve Davis is pleased to announce the passage of HB 960 (Eminent Domain Moratorium) out of the House Judiciary Committee by a unanimous vote Thursday.

This vote shows bipartisan support on protecting the rights of property owners throughout Georgia. Representative Davis is optimistic that a vote before the full House is coming soon and will put on hold temporarily abuses by local municipalities.

A City Councilman and the City Attorney were present at the hearing to present their case for Stockbridge’s use of Eminent Domain but their plea fell on deaf ears as the committee sided with property owners.

The moratorium was amended from 120 to 90 days, but this will clearly give the legislature time to work out a comprehensive bill that deals with this issue in a fair and judicious way. A clear victory for property rights in Georgia which follows the governor’s motto of “Whatever it takes”.
