ATLANTA – State Representative Darlene Taylor (R-Thomasville) recently attended a joint counter-terrorism meeting, which included members of the House Appropriations Public Safety Subcommittee, Chaired by Rep. Andy Welch (R-Locust Grove), and members of the House Public Safety and Homeland Security Committee, Chaired by Rep. Alan Powell (R-Hartwell).
The informational meeting was held on Wednesday, January 13, 2016 at the State Capitol, where members heard from various state agency heads and learned how their respective agencies are working to counter-terrorism in Georgia. The joint meeting included presentations from: Georgia Emergency Management Agency (GEMA) / Homeland Security, Director Jim Butterworth; Georgia Bureau of Investigations (GBI), Director Vernon Keenan; Georgia Department of Defense, Adjutant General Joe Jarrard; Georgia Department of Public Safety, Colonel Mark McDonough.
“I sincerely appreciate the committee chairmen, and the leaders of Georgia’s various Public Safety agencies, National Guard and GBI for coming together and sharing with the committee the state of our security in Georgia,” said Rep. Taylor. “While I am very comfortable with the preparations the state has made, and continues to make, we as citizens need to be vigilant. Law enforcement cannot be everywhere. We must do our part to support them and be prepared for any emergency.”
Representative Darlene Taylor represents the citizens of District 173, which includes portions of Decatur, Grady, and Thomas counties. She was elected into the House of Representatives in 2010, and currently serves as the Vice Chairman on the Public Safety and Homeland Security Committee, Vice Chairman of the Appropriations subcommittee on Health and the Secretary on the Governmental Affairs Committee. She also serves on the Appropriations Subcommittee on Health and the Agriculture & Consumer Affairs, Transportation and Insurance committees.
