Bulloch County Legislative Delegation Welcomes Leadership Bulloch to State Capitol

ATLANTA — Members of the Bulloch County Legislative Delegation recently welcomed Leadership Bulloch to the State Capitol on Friday, February 5, 2016. The delegation, which includes State Representatives Jan Tankersley (R-Brooklet), Butch Parrish (R-Swainsboro), Jon Burns (R-Newington) and Sen. Jack Hill (R-Reidsville), hosted the group and announced a local transportation project, the SR 67 project.

“It was a pleasure to welcome the Leadership Bulloch group to the State Capitol last week,” said Rep. Tankersley. “During their visit, my colleagues and I were proud to share the news of the upcoming transportation project on SR 67 and discuss the positive impact that this project will ultimately have on our community and its citizens.”

The SR 67 project is the result of last year’s passage of House Bill 170, the Transportation Funding Act, by the General Assembly. SR 67, a two-lane roadway, will be widened to a four-lane divided highway from the Statesboro Bypass to I-16, a distance of approximately 11 miles. The project begins south of I-16 and extends north, to south of CR 585 (Burkhalter Road). It includes reconstruction of the I-16 ramp intersections; relocation of the westbound exit ramp; a two-way left turn lane south of CR 585; and the addition of bike lanes.

The Georgia Department of Transportation has scheduled the construction contract award to begin in 2018, with completion in 2021, and the total cost of construction for the project is estimated at $22.8 million. The Department of Transportation has authorized right-of-way acquisition, with right-of-way (ROW) acquisition estimated at $8.25 million. No detours are expected through the construction zone.

Representative Jan Tankersley represents the citizens of District 160, which includes portions of Bryan and Bulloch counties. She was elected into the House of Representatives in 2010, and currently serves as the Chairman of the Intragovernmental Coordination Committee. She also serves on the Appropriations Subcommittee on Economic Development and the Agriculture & Consumer Affairs and Natural Resources & Environment committees.

Representative Butch Parrish represents the citizens of District 158, which includes portions of Bulloch, Candler, Emanuel, and Jenkins counties. He was elected into the House of Representatives in 1984, and currently serves as the Chair of the House Appropriations Subcommittee on Health. He also serves on the Banks & Banking, Economic Development & Tourism, and the Rules committees.

Representative Jon Burns represents the citizens of District 159, which includes portions of Bulloch, Effingham, and Screven counties. He was first elected into the House of Representatives in 2006 and is currently serves as the Majority Leader in the Georgia House of Representatives. He also serves on the Appropriations Subcommittee on Higher Education and the Agriculture & Consumer Affairs, Economic Development & Tourism, Ethics, Games, Fish, & Parks, Rules, and Transportation committees.
