Rep. Bruce Williamson Supports Legislation to Change State’s Public Office Eligibility Requirements

ATLANTA – State Representatives Bruce Williamson (R-Monroe), a member of the House Governmental Affairs Committee, today expressed his support for House Bill 781, legislation requiring a person to be a legal resident of Georgia and an American citizen in order to be eligible to serve on any government state, county, or municipal board, commission or authority. The House Governmental Affairs Committee passed House Bill 781, and the bill will now go before the Rules Committee for consideration before it can be eligible for a vote on the House floor.

“This legislation embodies conservative principles, and I was pleased to support this bill’s passage out of committee today with my ‘yes’ vote,” said Rep. Williamson. “Our elected officials have authority to make decisions that affect the taxpayers of this state, and I think those decisions are best left to those who live and work in Georgia.”

HB 781 would require a person serving on any government state, county, or municipal board, commission or authority to be a U.S. citizen and legal resident of Georgia, with exceptions for military and their immediate families and businesses located on our state lines.
