ATLANTA –State Representative Shaw Blackmon (R-Bonaire) today announced that the Big Indian Creek Waterway Trail in Houston County will receive $100,000 in grant funding from the Georgia Department of Natural Resources through the Federal Recreational Trails Program.
“We are so grateful to the Georgia Department of Natural Resources for this funding to complete Phase IV of the Big Indian Creek Waterway Trail,” said Rep. Blackmon. “Providing opportunities for our citizens to enjoy wildlife and community is a priority for our delegation. Projects like this serve only to increase civic involvement, and I look forward to seeing the positive impact it will have on Perry and the surrounding area.”
The Federal Recreational Trails Program (RTP) is a highly competitive grant program which provides funding for trail construction, trail maintenance and trail education. The Georgia RTP, which is funded through the Federal Highway Administration and administered at the state level, provides and maintains recreational trails and trail-related facilities identified in the Statewide Comprehensive Outdoor Recreation Plan (SCORP).
“DNR is excited to award this grant money for the fourth phase of the Big Indian Creek Waterway Trail,” said DNR Commissioner, Mark Williams. “We hope you will help us in congratulating Houston County for their efforts to provide quality recreational trail experiences for the citizens of Georgia.”
Representative Shaw Blackmon represents the citizens of District 146, which includes portions of Houston County. He was elected into the House of Representatives in 2015, and currently serves on the Economic Development & Tourism, Insurance, and Special Rules committees.
