ATLANTA – House Speaker David Ralston (R-Blue Ridge) recently appointed State Representative Bill Hitchens (R-Rincon) to the House Study Committee on Base Realignment and Closure.
“I spent 30 years of my life serving in the military as a Marine in Vietnam and an Officer in the Coast Guard Reserve, and I have a deeply vested interest in the success and welfare of our military and understand the significant economic impact it has in Georgia,” said Rep. Hitchens. “It is of utmost importance to me to as a veteran and as the Vice Chairman of the House Defense and Veterans Affairs Committee to always fight for our state’s military personnel and our bases. I am honored to serve on this study committee and continue to work for the military citizens of district 161 and the entire state of Georgia.”
This fifteen member study committee, Chaired by State Representative Dave Belton (R-Buckhead), is established by House Resolution 1135 and will examine how to protect Georgia’s military installations from a future federal base realignment and closure action.

Representative Bill Hitchens represents the citizens of District 161, which includes portions of Chatham and Effingham counties. He was first elected into the House of Representatives in 2012, and serves as the Vice Chairman of the Defense & Veterans Affairs Committee. He is also a member of the Appropriations Subcommittee on Public Safety, Transportation, Economic Development & Tourism and Public Safety & Homeland Security committees.
