ATLANTA – State Representative Trey Kelley (R-Cedartown) recently welcomed third, fourth and fifth grade students from Covenant Christian School in Cedartown to the State Capitol on Tuesday, May 10, 2016.
“I consider it a great privilege to be able to host this excellent group of future leaders at their State Capitol,” said Rep. Kelley. “I think it’s extremely important that we instill in our young people at an early age that they have a voice in the way that their government operates.”
The group from Covenant Christian School met with Rep. Kelley and had the opportunity to ask him questions about state government and his role as an elected official. The students were also led on a guided tour through the State Capitol by their teachers, Meredith Kinard, Kim Lamboy, Tisha Rittenhouse, and Leann Wiggins, where they learned the history of the Capitol building, the state, and the legislative process.
Representative Trey Kelley represents the citizens of District 16, which includes portions of Bartow, Haralson, and Polk counties. He was elected into the House of Representatives in 2012, and currently serves as the Secretary on the Higher Education Committee. He also serves on the Banks & Banking, Code Revision, Energy, Utilities, and Telecommunications, Health and Human Services, Ways and Means, and Judiciary committees.
