Rep. Barbara Sims Appointed to Division of Family and Children Services State Advisory Board

ATLANTA — State Representative Barbara Sims (R-Augusta) was recently appointed to the Georgia Division of Family and Children Services (DFCS) State Advisory Board by Governor Nathan Deal. Rep. Sims will represent Region 7, which includes 14 counties between Wilkes and Screven counties.

“I would like to thank Gov. Deal for appointing me to serve as a member on such a vital board,” said Rep. Sims. “As a former educator, I have a heart for children, and I have also seen the issues so many in our state face each day. I look forward to working with this esteemed group of individuals to find positive solutions for our Georgia’s precious young citizens.”

The DFCS State Advisory Board is charged with reviewing and making recommendations regarding issues relating the protection of children and the welfare of public assistance functions of the Division. Board members consist of representatives, appointed by the governor, from each of the DFCS regions in Georgia, as well as five members who are either state legislators or representatives from child welfare; former youth in foster care; public health or behavioral health and developmental disabilities; private child welfare care provider; or juvenile justice.

Representative Barbara Sims represents the citizens of District 123, which includes portions of Columbia and Richmond counties. She was elected into the House of Representatives in 2006, and currently serves as the Chairman of the State Properties Committee and Secretary of the Economic Development & Tourism Committee. She also serves on the Appropriations Subcommittee on Health and the Health & Human Services, Rules, Science & Technology, and Transportation committees.
