Rep. Karen Bennett Makes Constituents Aware of Delays in Processing 2015 State Income Tax Refunds

ATLANTA – State Representative Karen Bennett (D-Stone Mountain) informs constituents of a memo published by the Georgia Department of Revenue (DOR) detailing the delays in 2015 state income tax refunds, as well as the proper steps to take to check the status of a refund.

“In this day where everything is electronic, the odds of fraudulent activity increase significantly,” said Rep. Bennett. “I applaud the Department of Revenue for their thorough assessment of our tax refunds to ensure that Georgia’s citizens are not victims of tax fraud, and I also thank them for providing insight into the development and resources for our citizens to better understand the process.”

Commissioner Lynne Riley announced that due to increased fraudulent activity this filing season, 2015 Georgia Income Tax Returns may take longer to process. The Department of Revenue requests that all Georgia taxpayers allow up to 90 business days to receive state income tax refunds. Those still waiting to receive their refund can track the status by registering with DOR’s Georgia Tax Center, using the “Where’s my refund?” app, or by calling 1-877-423-6711 and choosing option #2.
