Rep. Trey Kelley Visits West Side Elementary in Honor of Georgia Pre-K Week

ATLANTA – State Representative Trey Kelley (R-Cedartown) today visited West Side Elementary School in support of early childhood education during Georgia Pre-K Week. Rep. Kelley read a favorite children’s book to students in Mrs. Bozeman’s class to highlight the importance of reading at a young age.

“I truly enjoyed spending time with the pre-k students at West Side Elementary,” said Rep. Kelley. “Georgia’s pre-k program is one of our states100416-tkelley-ga-pre-k-week crowning achievements and has served as a model for the nation. Through my service to district 16, I will continue to support efforts to educate our state’s most valuable resource, our children, and put them on a path to a successful life.”

Georgia Pre-K Week, October 3-7, was launched six years ago and is organized each year by Voices for Georgia’s Children. Voices for Georgia’s Children, a policy and advocacy non-profit organization, is supported by more than 15 child-focused partner organizations. Support from government, business and community leaders has been the key to Georgia’s success in leading the nation in early learning policies and practices.

“Such broad support from so many of our state’s most influential citizens, such as Rep. Kelley, shows us that Georgians really understand the long term value of quality early learning,” said Emily Pelton, Executive Director of Voices for Georgia’s Children. “Getting the right start helps a child succeed in nearly every phase of life, from learning to read successfully by third grade to graduating high school and ultimately entering the workforce.”

Georgia Pre-K Week is celebrated with the full support of the Georgia Department of Early Care and Learning (DECAL), and generous corporate participation and sponsorship from Georgia Power and Synovus. Other partners include Black Child Development Institute-Atlanta, Boys & Girls Clubs of Metro Atlanta, Ferst Foundation for Childhood Literacy, GEEARS: Georgia Early Education Alliance for Ready Students, Georgia Child Care Association, Georgia Family Connection Partnership, Georgia Partnership for Excellence in Education, Georgia Public Library Service, Georgia School Boards Association, Georgia Vision Project, multiple Junior Leagues throughout Georgia, Metro Atlanta YMCA, Quality Care for Children and United Way of Greater Atlanta.
